Over the sea to Skye

The Isle of Skye, off the north west coast of Scotland, is where the artist John Bathgate lives with his wife Annie. A Scotsman, John was attracted to the wildness and ruggedness of the Skye coastline and it is not hard to see why from the photo below:

Here is one of John’s paintings:

My next charity shop find is a small watercolour of Polperro in Cornwall which I think John must have done a very long time ago perhaps when he was on holiday. On the back was an envelope with his details and some information about Polperro. His style has clearly developed and changed a lot since then.

You can see more of his work on his website: dunstudio.com

Warwickshire is an English county formed from the division of Mercia in the early 11th century. It is famous now as the birthplace of William Shakespeare in Stratford upon Avon and for the magnificent Warwick Castle.

My next little gem was painted by Caroline Pratt and exhibited at Stratford upon Avon Civic Hall during Warwickshire Art Week in 2008. It’s title is ‘Cool 1’ and it is an original oil on canvas measuring 14cm x 11cm.
